Dr. Vasant G Honavar is Edward Frymoyer Endowed Professor of Information Sciences and Technology, at the Pennsylvania State University where he directs the Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory. Honavar is an Associate Director of the Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences where he co-leads university-wide initiatives in Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences. H e serves on the faculties of graduate programs in Informatics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics and Genomics and Operations Research and undergraduate program in Data Science at Penn State. Honavar has over 30 years of research experience in Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences. His research contributions in Machine Learning, Causal Inference, Knowledge Representation and Biomedical informatics have been documented in over 300 peer-reviewed research articles (h-index=57). Prior to joining Penn State, Honavar was a program director at the National Science Foundation (USA) where he led the Big Data Program (2011-2013) and a Professor of Computer Science and of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Iowa State University (1990-2013). Honavar was appointed as the inaugural Sudha Murty Distinguished Visiting Chair of Neurocomputing and Data Science at the Indian Institute of Science in 2016. Honavar was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2018. Honavar holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. (Computer Science) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, MS (Electrical and Computer Engineering) from Drexel University and a BE (Electronics Engineering) from Bangalore University.
