Dr. Sarkar’s publications, patents, and technical leadership have been in applying probabilistic models and statistical data analysis to diverse areas such as experimental physics, clinical trials, computer vision, text mining, wireless networks, e-commerce, credit risk, retail finance, engineering reliability, and renewable energy. He has been an invited speaker at several international conferences, such as the 3rd World Congress in Probability and Statistics (Chapel Hill) and the 53rd Session of the International Statistical Institute (Seoul). Dr. Sarkar did his Ph.D. from Stanford University in Statistics. After stints at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and at IBM, he spent a decade at General Electric (GE) in Bangalore where he last served as Quality Leader for the John F. Welch Technology Centre and as Principal Scientist, Analytics, for GE Global Research. Currently he has been visiting faculty at Stanford University, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). He has also provided professional committee service for the University Grants Commission (UGC) and for infoDev, a World Bank program.
